About Kia:
Kia is a results-oriented manager with over 15 years of experience leading programs in the management consulting sector. After earning degrees from Vassar College and Harvard University, Ms. Coleman was accepted into the United States Foreign Service where she completed international and domestic tours of duty, culminating in her role as Special Assistant to former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell. Upon leaving the Foreign Service, she continued her support to senior executives at the highest levels of government.
Goals for the HKS BAA:
It has been a tremendous honor to serve as the Communications Director for the Harvard Kennedy School Black Alumni Association (HKS BAA). My initial priorities have been to establish the technical and strategic foundation necessary for clear, consistent, and impactful communications that educate alumni about the BAA's mission, expand membership, amplify programming, and build alumni connections. I want to work with you (our members and supporters) and our Executive Board to build on this work with a particular emphasis on connections, partnerships, and programming. I would like to build the infrastructure necessary to support in-person and virtual networking forums, explore partnership opportunities with other Harvard networks to support impactful programming, and prepare for signature BAA events like the 2024 Black Alumni Reunion. Most importantly, I strive to hear from you - our members - to incorporate your feedback as we evolve our strategy!Connection with HKS: It has been my pleasure to serve as the Communications Director for the Harvard Kennedy School Black Alumni Association (HKS BAA) since last fall. I have strived to work in close partnership with the HKS BAA Executive Board, the HKS Alumni Relations Office, and our wonderful HKS alumni, staff, and faculty to increase awareness about the BAA and its enduring mission. I launched our 2023 BAA membership drive, helping to increase membership and expand our growing member and supporter database. I developed new communication vehicles and strengthened existing communication platforms including our bi-weekly BAA Highlights newsletter, our website, and our social media offerings. I created new opportunities to feature our BAA members through our alumni/staff spotlight series and various news articles. I am proud that these types of efforts contributed to the HKS BAA's selection as the 2023 Alumni Network Engagement Award winner.
